With Tired Eyes…Explosions In The Sky – France

Interview December, 20 2006

Interview de Christopher Hrasky (batterie). 20.12.2006. Questions posées par les membres du forum.

How do you live this period of calm after recording your new album and the shows you played in california in november?
Christopher: The last couple of months have been rather calm and its quite nice.Mark spends his time with his wife, I spend my time with my girlfriend and my dog and Munaf and Mike are off travelling through Japan for a couple of weeks. I think we're all just trying to take it easy a bit until the album comes out and the tour begins.

What do you feel exactly about this new album ?
Christopher: I think it's the best record we've done. We all feel that way. It took a lot of work. The writing took awhile, the recording was a bit hard and the mixing was especially challenging. But it was worth it. We feel so relieved that we were able to make something that we're so happy with. It was a bit scary for awhile.

"Welcome, ghosts" aside, do any of the new songs you've played live have piano in them on the album-version ? Are you going to have a piano/keyboard on stage for performing those new songs with piano in them ? in other words, was the piano overlayed, or is it possible, with just the 4 of you, to play these piano songs live with all of their components ? (by kemosabi)

Christopher: We haven't played the piano songs live, but I am assuming we will.

Had one of you been familiar with piano already? Or did you just pick it up, recently? Who plays it, by the way ? (by kemosabi)

Christopher: None of us really know what we're doing when it comes to playing piano. Myself, Michael, and Munaf all play on the record.

What is your greatest achievement as a band so far ? (by beba)

Christopher: Thats a pretty hard one. I think being able to see the world might be up there. Also, making music that we like is a nice plus.

Are you going to play outside the US like Canada, Europe, Australia, Asia, Mexico or South America ? (by atimeofday)

Christopher: Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia for sure. And we're working on setting some stuff up in Mexico and South America.

What's the best gig you've ever been to ? (by beba)

Christopher: The Flaming Lips here in Austin.

Is the new song you played in December 05 at the Bowery Ballroom and in January 06 in Texas gonna be on the new album ? (by kemosabi)

Christopher: Yep. Its the first song. It's called "Birth and Death of the Day."

If you had to pick one song for making love, which one would you choose ? (by beba)

Christopher: I have to admit, I don't really like to listen to music while making love so I can't really comment.

If you had to pick one song to cover, what would that be ? (byatimeofday)

Christopher: Stay Together for the Kids by Blink 182. Or maybe a Neutral Milk Hotel song.

What do you think about soul music ? (by beba)

Christopher: I love it.

What movies/tv shows are your guys's favorites ? or funniest ? (by kemosabi)

Christopher: I think to list our favorite movies might be a bit too hard. There are so many that we love. Some of my personal favorites off the top of my head: Fanny and Alexander, Bottle Rocket, Dog Day Afternoon, The Son, McCabe and Mrs. Miller. This is too hard. TV shows are easier. The shows we love are Deadwood, The Wire, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Office (UK and US versions), Trailer Park Boys (A Canadian show that sounds really bad but is actually quite amazing), Freaks and Geeks,Arrested Development, Stella. There are probably some others that I'm forgetting.

What music do you currently listen to ? (by atimeofday)

Christopher: I've been listening to the new Eluvium record that comes out next year (its great), this strange metal band called Xasthur, Jens Lenkman, Joanna Newsome, Sunset Rubdown and some other stuff I don't remember. I know Michael has been listening to Clipse a lot.

Imagine, You met an ET on your way to buy some cigarettes, he asks you "who are you', what will you respond ? (by beba)

Christopher: I wouldn't answer. I would just run away in terror.

As usual, if you have any last words or something else...

Christopher: Thanks for caring. Have a good 2007.
